No. 1 – Be enthusiastic! One that stuck in my mind from having David(?) come and speak to us during Prof. Experience class.

Don’t forget to have a discipline hierarchy though! A myth to think I’ll be so well organised I won’t need one…
I also can’t help but like the Canter’s model when I read through it – Assertive Discipline as expressed say in Charles, C. M. (2008). Building classroom discipline (9th ed., pp. 65-69). Boston, USA: Pearson / Allyn & Bacon. From Jones’ Positive Discipline approach (see Tauber, R. T. (1995). Fredric Jones: Positive discipline (Ch 5). Classroom management: Theory and practice (2nd ed., pp. 56-69). Fort Worth, USA: Harcourt Brace College Publishers), a few helpful ideas regarding structure and limit setting etc. One idea I liked was the ‘praise-prompt-leave’ approach for dealing with questions during seatwork time. Means you’re not left lingering too long over one student’s question… just giving a prompt and moving on… you can always cruise back past to check later.
