For the second year in a row I have taught year 11 methods on sequences and series. Enjoy kicking it off with some discussion based on some pics I took on holidays before my first attempt at this.
When getting on to sums of arithmetic sequences, a lesson that seemed to go well involved looking at Dan Meyer’s ‘Super Stairs‘ – showing them the video and then getting them to start with a quick guess/estimate, then start the process of getting them to think about how they would work out the super stairs step count. Then show them with that and the story of Gauss how the first and last, 2nd and 2nd last add to the same thing etc. and develop into the formula in the workbook.
