An early task in PPLE (2012) was to watch a series of videos call The Unteachables (http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-unteachables) – about a group of kids in the UK, considered by many to be just that – unteachable! A ‘teacher of the year’ winner took up the challenge to engage and educate them… with some ideas jumping out to me for future reference:
- The students suggested boredom was a cause of their unruly behaviour. This teacher made lessons active. He wanted to switch their brain on – so he got them moving!
- The teacher showed great listening skills and understanding
- Some of his personal attributes I identified included fliexibility, dynamism, belief in students, patience… He was a great encourager and had great motivation/drive to teach them.
